Have
someone take skinfold measurements for 7 sites on the
right side of your body using the following technique:
1. Carefully identify the skinfold site (mark
if necessary with surgical marking pen)
2. Using thumb and index finger pull skin
and underlying layer of fat away from muscle.
3. Holding skin fold, place jaws of calipers
(plastic or Harpenden) pendicular to fold about 1/4
inch below where you are holding the skin fold.
4. Continue holding skin fold until reading
taken.
5. Release caliper trigger and wait until
needle settles (about 4 seconds).
6. Read and record skinfold measurement.
7. Open jaws of calpers to remove it from
site, closing jaws slowly to prevent loss of calibration.
8. Repeat measurement to ensure accuracy.
9. If second measurement is +/-10% different
from first measurement, retest.
